From dance park to the meeting place of the future – in Glimåkra, the People's Park comes to life
About the project
In Glimåkra, a new meeting place is emerging where generations meet and create activities together. With support from Leader, the dormant People's Park will now be filled with life again – as a multi-activity house for both young and old.
The idea was born when children and young people in the area called for a youth center. At the same time, conversations with associations and organizations showed that the need for social activities is great even among older people and those with disabilities. The result was a project where the participants themselves are involved in deciding the content.
Through working groups with representatives from different ages, activities will be developed and tested. On the wish list are everything from pinball machines, disco, and EPA meetings to boccia, table tennis, and nostalgia evenings with vinyl records. Outdoors, activities are planned along accessible forest paths in the park's green environment.
The initiative is not just about leisure – but also about community. The project particularly aims to reach people who often stand outside of association life, such as young people with foreign-born parents and older individuals in involuntary loneliness.
Through local collaboration and voluntary efforts, Glimåkra People's Park will once again become an obvious gathering point. The goal is a vibrant meeting place where new ideas can grow – and where the entire community feels at home.
