Leader Östra Skåne is a non-profit association. We work with rural development in the nine municipalities of eastern Skåne by granting project support based on the leader method.

Rural development through the leader method
Leader is a method where the private, non-profit, and public sectors work together to contribute to local development. The method is used throughout the EU and is based on the idea that local development is most effectively and sustainably carried out by those who live and operate in an area.
Leader is a French acronym for Liaison Between Actions for the Development of the Rural Economy which in Swedish becomes Linked actions to strengthen the rural economy.

The strategy for Leader Östra Skåne
Each leader area has a local development strategy that forms the basis for development in the area. Our area includes the municipalities of Bromölla, Hässleholm, Kristianstad, Osby, Perstorp, Simrishamn, Tomelilla, Ystad, and Östra Göinge.
The strategy constitutes the framework for our work and governs how we can allocate leader support. The strategy has been developed in collaboration between the private, non-profit, and public sectors and applies for the years 2023-2027.

Locally made decisions
Our board consists of a total of 27 members with 18 regular and 9 substitutes. The public, non-profit, and private sectors each have one-third of the seats, and the sectors are evenly distributed among the nine municipalities. The distribution is important to us because the leader method is based on collaboration.
It is the board that is responsible for ensuring that we work according to our development strategy and decides on the allocation of leader support.

Leader Östra Skåne – a local action group
Leader Östra Skåne operates as a non-profit association where the board and members together form a local action group, known in the leader world as LAG (Local Action Group).
Anyone who lives or operates in the area can become a member of the association. As a member, you have voting rights at the annual meeting and are also eligible for the board.

We have a broad collaboration with the partnership, a network with other development actors in rural development. This is to ensure coordination effects and synergies for sustainable development.

With support from the EU, the state, and the participating municipalities
Our activities are financed by funds from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, the Swedish state, and our participating municipalities: Bromölla, Hässleholm, Kristianstad, Osby, Perstorp, Simrishamn, Tomelilla, Ystad, and Östra Göinge.
