Balsby IP – an investment for the entire village

This project has not yet received a formal decision from the Swedish Board of Agriculture.

Balsby Sports Ground – a vibrant meeting place for the entire community

About the project

Balsby SK wants to develop Balsby Sports Ground into a modern, safe, and inclusive meeting place for all ages. With support for the project, the association plans to establish a multi-arena in sand for beach handball, beach soccer, and beach volleyball, as well as renovate the existing café space into an activity space for children and youth. The outdoor environment will also be upgraded to make the area more welcoming.

The initiative aims to promote physical activity, community, and spontaneous sports – especially among children and youth. The need has increased as more families with children have moved to the area. By providing more accessible activity areas, opportunities are created for children and youth to meet and be active locally, without relying on transportation to other locations.

The project is well anchored through dialogue with residents, schools, and associations, as well as through surveys that show great interest. Collaborations exist with IFK Kristianstad, Österslöv IS, and Åhus Beach, which are requesting training areas for beach sports.

The goal is to create a sustainable meeting place that strengthens public health, community, and association life, and broadens activities beyond traditional soccer.

The board's assessment

Decision date: 2025-06-09

Total selection criteria: 675 points

The board's justification: The project has identified a need for expanded activity areas, not only for the local area but also for nearby villages and associations. Additionally, based on a survey of youth, it has been found that there is a lack of a meeting space for them where they can gather year-round. Through the initiative, the applicants meet the identified need and increase the attractiveness of the location for a broad target group.
