In July 2024, the government decided to assign a special investigator to submit proposals on how future regional development policy and rural policy should be directed and designed. The assignment is due to be finalised in June 2026, but an interim report was already published on 30 June 2025. Leader and the Leader method are mentioned in very positive terms:
”"We believe that the methods and working methods used within the framework of the Leader method are interesting, especially for opportunities for developed collaboration, and we will look further into how they could be used on a larger scale. Evaluations have pointed to both advantages and development opportunities with the Leader work, including that the structural effects of the efforts could increase in several ways."”
