Emma will lead the work for living station communities
Text and interview: Andreas Lovén
Emma Ernstsson has been tasked with leading the work on Living station communities until spring 2028. With strong local roots and a great commitment to community life, she wants to inspire more people to get involved and develop their hometown. In an interview with Andreas Lovén, Emma talks about her background, her commitment, and her hopes for the project.
”Hope that more see the charm in getting involved locally”
In the coming month, Emma Ernstsson will visit all station communities in the municipality. Göingetösen will work on what is closest to her heart: engagement and drive in her own community.
– The smaller the community, the greater the need for engagement. There are many who make voluntary contributions to their community, but there could be even more.
Emma Ernstsson is gearing up for the upcoming month's visits to all of the municipality's station communities, together with Johan Jönsson, operations manager at Destination Hässleholm. She has been tasked with leading the project ”Living station communities,” which will run until spring 2028.
As project manager, she will contribute to creating activities and meeting places, as well as providing support to develop local ideas and projects. She is a true Göingetös with roots in the area around Osby.
– My family has lived in the area for many hundreds of years, and I have grown up with a commitment to the local community.
Emma Ernstsson has an extensive CV for her young age. She has served on the board of the scout troop, sung in the church choir, been the chairperson of the Center Party's youth association in northeastern Skåne, and entered the municipal council last term.
– I have also been a swimming coach, given piano lessons to little ones, been a member of the Center Party's district board in Skåne, and had a part-time job at Lekoseum. And played drums in a rock band.
Shouldn't one also have time to have fun?
– My parents have been very much for stewardship and feeling rooted. And I am anything but rootless, ha ha. My future children will also know where they come from – that is for sure.
Emma has recently completed a three-year bachelor's program in European Studies at Lund University. As part of the program, she spent half a year in Munich, where she studied political science.
How come you became project manager?
– I applied and got into a master's program but wanted alternatives, so I also looked for interesting jobs. Through the contact center in Hässleholm municipality, I got Stefan Larsson's (the business manager) contact details, and that's how it happened. A lot is about timing, I believe. This project suits me very well, considering my education, insight into how a municipality works, my local anchoring, and knowledge of all the stations.
What do you hope to achieve with ”Levande stationsorter”?
– The project consists of many different parts, but a more overarching goal is to create sustainable collaboration structures. I hope more people see the charm in getting involved locally and want more. It can bring so much to the community, to one's own association, and personally.
She believes there are sometimes misconceptions about what a municipality's areas of responsibility are.
– And I believe that in the local community, one can achieve and do a lot on their own.
During October and the first part of November, Emma Ernstsson will visit the different locations. Right now, activities are being detailed, and a letter of intent is being prepared for businesses and associations regarding engagement in the project.
– It will be very fun and educational to follow the project and see what results it brings. I believe it will work very well.
