Visit Osby

The project was carried out in Skånes Ess during the 2014-2024 program period.

This is a project to pre-plan a visitor center that will bring together culture, artistry, crafts and leisure life in Osby's historic Briohus. Lekoseum will become the hub of the wheel that connects to all other tourist attractions that are currently nearby, and in this way make the area even more interesting for tourists and visitors to stay in.

About the project

The project rests on, shows and develops the innovative power that has created and driven the business community in northeastern Skåne in general and Osby municipality in particular. Lekoseum is a toy museum that displays toys manufactured locally by many different subcontractors and in Bröderna Ivarssons/BRIO's own factories in Osby and Killeberg. The museum is a well-known tourist destination, but the current premises do not have the capacity to accommodate bus groups, exhibitions or cultural activities to the extent that is requested. Osby has many players in the tourism industry and the foundation therefore sees good opportunities for collaboration and wants to provide space for other businesses to showcase themselves when it is now time for Lekoseum to grow. Examples include currently operating modern companies and manufacturers, local artists and craftsmen, local history museums, school museums, wagon museums, chainsaw museums, the Wool Spinneriet, boat engine museums, industrial museums, Svarta Bergen and more.

To make the visitor center a reality, study visits will be carried out to Ravensburg's similar operations in Germany to exchange experiences and create contacts. Furthermore, the planned new premises will be designed with regard to content and location. The premises are intended to be open and can be used by the public. There will also be a showroom here where various operations can present themselves, as well as a space available to artists/craftsmen for sales. In addition, plans are being made for an industrial museum and an office museum. In parallel, various training courses, study circles and study visits will be designed to allow tourism industry players to develop together, for example in marketing and product development. The project will also investigate transport within the area between tourist destinations and possible tourist packages, as well as work to strengthen the network within the tourism industry.

Results

Together with an architect, we have produced drawings for an extension to Lekoseum and drawings for the entrance floor of Briohuset. We have met with artisans/artists, Osby Industrial Museum and the tourism industry regularly to design the drawings for Briohuset according to their wishes. These groups have also made study visits to various craft collectives, we have visited museums, engaged a lecturer and some have been allowed to go

on education. We have visited Ravensburg to develop a collaboration between Lekoseum and Ravensburger (BRIO's current owner). We have carried out an exhibition with artisans, the tourism industry and Osby Industrimuseum during the summer and autumn of 2019. We have also outlined a development of the activities at Lekoseum that will be made possible by the expansion. We have also met with officials and politicians in the municipality and discussed the project.

There are now floor plans for the Lekoseum extension and the renovation of the entrance floor in the BRIO building, as well as a cost estimate for both projects. We have developed ideas about Lekoseum as a children's cultural center and the BRIO building as a "multi-activity center". We have gained a better understanding of the project among decision-makers for all participants in the project and their needs, wishes and their ability to develop Osby as a tourist destination.

The artisans/artists have started a collective. Osby Industrial Museum has been developed.

The student associations are interested in participating in the activities in the BRIO building. The Snapphanerikets tourist association has taken new steps. They have decided to create a website and become more active on social media. And we have started sketching out a computer game museum.

A project that can strengthen the brand and identity of Osby. The project involves investigating the conditions for creating a center for various activities, both culture, art, crafts and outdoor activities and Osby's history. Several museums can be given the conditions to gather in one place in a new and innovative way, which is positive and new in the Skånes Ess area. The project fits into Skånes Ess's strategy and contributes to the goals for 2014-2020.
