A magical garden with historical roots

The project was implemented in LEADER Southeastern Skåne during the 2014-2024 programming period.

A magical and imaginative garden with cultural and historical roots for everyone with a childlike spirit.

About the project

The project aimed to develop Ulriksdal's visitor garden in Kivik into a magical place for families with children and those interested in history. In collaboration with artist and craftsman Phil Game, researcher and author Anna Hasselberg, author Alma Nyström Larsson and filmmaker and actor Jonatan Öhlin, project manager Ingalill Nyström created art installations, stories and a promotional film. The goal was to bring the history of the place to life and attract a wider audience through imaginative features and cultural activities.

Activities

The project was carried out in four stages. First, historical material was collected, then two books were written – one about the history of Ulriksdal and a storybook for children. Then, three art installations were built: a temple, a Gothic arch and a waterfall. A short promotional film was produced, and a workshop was held for craftsmen and garden designers. Storytimes and guided tours were tested with visitors, and finally the books were edited and published. The project’s results were disseminated through screenings, workshops and social media.

Results

The project resulted in three art installations, two books and a commercial. It created new collaborations between artists, craftsmen and researchers. Sagoyoga was introduced in the park, and guided tours based on the book material were offered. The project also led to continued research collaborations with Kivik Museum and the County Museum of Skåne. New lectures and activities are planned to keep the project's ideas alive.
