Meeting point Vitemölla

Together for the region – this is how Udden is being transformed with support from Leader

A new meeting place is emerging by the sea in Vitemölla – created by and for the community. With support from Leader, Vitemölle Lejeförening is transforming the previously unused Udden site into a vibrant and accessible gathering point.

The earthworks are complete. Stones have been excavated and reused, the ground has been leveled, grass and plants have been planted and posts have been erected, several of them with traces of former life in the sea. The site has been given an expression that ties in with the history and character of the fishing village.

Now the finishing touches remain. Specially ordered handcrafted furniture from Piteå is expected to be delivered and assembled on site. After that, work will continue with planting and decoration.
A first test coffee is planned for Easter. The official opening will take place around Ascension Day, with a sausage barbecue, music and speeches, and when the village's youngest and oldest residents cut the ribbon together.

The local commitment has been great, with many non-profit forces. Udden is already a place where people meet. Soon a sustainable and inclusive meeting place will be ready - a new living heart in Vitemölla.

The board's justification: The board has prepared the case that has achieved 625 points and is considered to meet the goals of the local development strategy. The aim of the project, to create a meeting place in the harbor, and to do so in such a way that both the history of the place is taken into account in the design and at the same time contributes to reducing beach erosion, appeals to the board. The fact that the project has also involved the residents of the place, both during the anchoring work and in future implementation, shows a great commitment to the development of the place itself.
