Secure the loop in Vollsjö
Accessible and traffic-safe riding and walking trails in scenic Vollsjö.
About the project
The aim of the project was to increase safety and accessibility for pedestrians and horse riders in Vollsjö by creating a walking and riding loop. The goal was to reduce the risk of traffic accidents, promote outdoor activities and contribute to the sustainable development of leisure activities for better physical and mental health.
Activities
The project involved the construction of a loop through dialogue with landowners, the establishment of lease agreements and cooperation with Sjöbo Municipality, which is responsible for future maintenance. The work included a maintenance plan, information efforts via social media and meetings, and the creation of an instructional film and a quick reference guide for similar projects. Coompanion Skåne led the project with the help of non-profits and contractors.
Results
The project resulted in a longer loop than planned (9 kilometers instead of 6.5) which has received great local and regional interest. A group in Flyinge has started a similar project inspired by Vollsjö.
Collaboration between the municipality and landowners has secured the future of the trail, and the experiences from the project have been shared through meetings, webinars and social media. The effects include improved traffic safety, strengthened outdoor recreation, increased biodiversity and rural development.
