Sanatorium Forest

The project was implemented in Leader Lag PH during the 2014-2024 programming period.

The Sanatorieskogen forest was long popular as a meeting place and recreation area. The project showed how good living environments can be created and enhance our fine right of access.

About the project

Ever since Tyringe Kur- och Badanstalt was built in 1896, the Sanatorieskogen has been a valued refuge for both sanatorium guests and residents of Tyringe.

The basic idea of the project was to recreate the former idyll and raise information about cultural and natural historical values in various ways. In terms of marketing, the project had great value for a smaller town like Tyringe. At the same time, Tyringe is known as a town for its opportunities for leisure activities, where Tyrs Hov's sports centers and the connection to exercise and reaction in Sanatorieskogen felt natural and obvious.

Activities

Blueberry Valley is a hidden gem where Midsummer celebrations were held in the past. By recreating the area, new opportunities have been created to once again use the valley for public events in the future.

The remains of the old fountain were removed and a new one was built on the old site. A lighting pole further elevated the site. When many of the old paths remained but were overgrown, work began to clear them up and make them accessible again. To further enhance accessibility, benches were also placed, just as they were in the past.

Information signs and orientation boards were installed at the entrances to the area. For foreign visitors, texts have been compiled in English and German. At selected locations, such as ruins and cauldrons, extra information has been installed.

To disseminate the results and promote the place as a whole, leaflets were published and digital media was used. The folding map was distributed to all households in Tyringe and placed where tourist information is available.

Results

The project created a new physical meeting place and a restored recreation area. The result is primarily aimed at residents in the area but also visiting visitors. The sanatorium forest is now used extensively, regardless of the season. Already at the end of the project, the project owner could see that the number of visitors had become greater than what had been initially expected.

In addition to visitors, exercisers and blueberry pickers, the Sanatorieskogen Forest is also used by schools and various associations for both educational and training purposes.
