Agnes farm dairy

The project was carried out in Skånes Ess during the 2014-2024 program period.

A project to start a farm dairy that produces delicacy cheeses from milk from a mountain cow herd in Strönhult, outside Lönsboda. Through the project, curiosity will be awakened and knowledge will increase both about the countryside and the craft of cheesemaking.

About the project

To be able to start the business, purchases of cheese vats and the establishment of a parking lot for customers are required. In the project, the network with local entrepreneurs will be expanded and various activities, such as study visits, lectures, and events, will be organized.

A farm dairy that produces delicacy cheeses from milk from its own mountain cow herd is unique to northeastern Skåne. Through the project, the project owner hopes to create jobs in the countryside and keep alive a threatened Swedish landrace, the mountain cow. The business is also part of contributing to landscape care, an open landscape, and a vibrant countryside.

Agnes Farm Dairy was started in 2006 in Kläcklingen outside Växjö. With the move to Strönhult in 2012, operations in Kläcklingen were concluded.

Results

When the project is finally reported, the farm dairy has opened and customer influx is good. To continue learning about a threatened Swedish landrace and as an important part of keeping the countryside alive, study visits are welcomed.

The investment means that Strönhult gets a unique product that can put the place ”on the map” and strengthen the village. Collaboration with other entrepreneurs in the area ensures that the product becomes a unique and well-known complement to other products available in northeastern Skåne. The applicant has very good references that attest to the quality of the product. Cheese made from milk from mountain cows, a protected breed, becomes special for Strönhult. The animal husbandry also helps to keep the landscape open in a historically interesting unpartitioned village. That the cheese will only be sold in Strönhult also means that those who want to buy the product will come to Strönhult, which will become a clear destination along with other investments in the area. The project has a strong element of entrepreneurship and is profile- and identity-creating. The project fits well into the strategy for Skåne's Ess and contributes to the goals within several intervention areas, but most to the goals in the competitiveness intervention area.
