Pre-study Arkelstorp Brunn – the medical health garden

The purpose of the preliminary study was to investigate the possibilities of creating a medical health garden in Arkelstorps Brunn for people with a combination of medical, social and labor market-related problems.

Already in the early 17th century, Arkelstorps Brunn was used in the service of health. In the late 19th century and early 20th century, a happy social life developed and people from near and far came to Arkelstorp to drink from the well and bathe in the healthy water. There were doctors, nurses and bathers on site. The real flourishing was not reached until the 1920s.

The project group's vision is to revive the old well environment by restoring the facility and establishing a medical health garden, based on modern research and proven experience. An estimate made by researchers at SLU, Alnarp is that approximately 300,000 people in Sweden are in need of medical health gardens. When medical activities are not being conducted, the facility will function as an excursion destination and a gathering place for people who want to take part in the health garden for their own well-being and an opportunity for peace and quiet.

The implementation consisted of study visits, meetings and workshops, as well as the development of a concept and financial plan for a medical health garden at Arkelstorps Brunn. The feasibility study forms the basis for the implementation project Arkelstorps Brunn – the medical health garden.

It is good to have a preliminary study to investigate whether the conditions for creating a Medical Health Garden in Arkelstorps Brunn exist, and whether it is possible to revive the old well environment and elevate Brunn as the historical place it is. An implementation project has great potential to strengthen the identity of the area. The preliminary study also includes securing the anchoring of a possible implementation project in the village.
