Radio-controlled car racing for everyone

When associations meet spontaneously and share different experiences, it often leads to significantly larger events. This is the foundation for why this project became a reality – for remote-controlled car racing should be accessible to everyone, regardless of functional variation and conditions.

Remote-controlled car racing has many charms and a diversity of participants. This is also true in the association RC Buggy Club, which has its track in Sösdala outside Hässleholm. Fredrik Gunnarsson is the chairman of the association. He explains that there is a very good mix of people who are members, which means that during training and competition, there is always someone at roughly the same level.

At a meeting with an RC Club in Blekinge, the project idea was born. The Blekinge club had made its track accessible, something they really wanted to do in Sösdala as well. The sport is something that is and can be for everyone, regardless of mobility or functional ability. The track and associated facility would be adapted to welcome more and allow everyone who wants to discover the joy of the sport!

The project's activities consisted of two different but equally important parts. It was about both the physical work with the facility and the collaboration with Furuboda and its members.

The ramp to the driver’s position was built, and a toilet was purchased to make all areas accessible. The mechanics area and parking were adapted. To ensure that the facility reached the desired level, the association organized a trial day for Furuboda's members to test the facility. Two minor adjustments later, everything was fully approved by those who know what accessibility means.

Already at the project's conclusion, the number of visitors had increased by about 200 people, and several new members were welcomed to the club. One of these was a blind 11-year-old boy who, together with his dad, drives with a so-called dual control.

For the association, it has meant a lot to have realized the project idea. The finished track is both a destination and a meeting place, and now there are opportunities for track driving even for non-members, which opens up for many more to find a new interest. Moreover, the work continues as the association looks ahead. On the agenda is, among other things, to build a children's track that is of course also adapted for accessibility.
