Snapphaneden Stage 1
Snapphaneleden – a new link for nature, people and development

The project aimed to create new opportunities for outdoor recreation, tourism and local development by establishing the Snapphaneleden. By linking Arkelstorp and Sibbhult, two existing Skåne trails were connected, while an attractive circular route for both hiking and canoeing between Immeln and Breanäs was made possible. The work built on a feasibility study that had already generated great commitment.
The project was characterized by broad collaboration and active dialogue. The route of the trail was developed in close collaboration with landowners, villagers, associations, businesses and authorities.
Trial hikes, workshops and meetings provided valuable feedback and contributed to joint solutions. At the same time, the project worked on marketing, mapping materials, training and new ideas on how hiking trails can create value for landowners as well.
The result was a completed hiking trail that strengthens rural development, increases the area's attractiveness and creates new networks and destinations. The Snapphaneleden is now part of the Skåneleden SL6 and has a strong local anchoring for long-term operation and further development.

The board's assessment
Decision date: 2023-12-18
Total selection criteria: 790 points
The board's justification: The project meets the Leader criteria well. In addition, the effects of the project are considered to have the potential to spill over to other operators in the surrounding area through an increased influx of visitors, which could provide increased opportunities for entrepreneurs and attractions in the area. A new innovative way of working with landowners could benefit future hiking trails.
